Don’t Leave Out Dad This Father’s Day

Let’s face it – Mother’s Day is a bigger deal than Father’s Day. We suspect it might have something to do with the childbirth part of being a mom. We’ll definitely give you that one…

So, is that the reason dads seem to get shortchanged when it comes to their day of celebration? For instance, in 2012, Americans spent $8 million less celebrating Father’s Day than Mother’s Day. Also, did you know that Father’s Day wasn’t officially recognized until 58 years after Mother’s Day? Thankfully, Richard Nixon made Father’s Day a permanent national holiday in the United States in 1972. And, here is our favorite nugget of dad’s day trivia knowledge: more phone calls are made in the US on Mother’s Day than on Father’s Day…BUT, Father’s Day is the busiest day of the year for collect calls. Thanks to all the mooching kids out there, dads can rest easy knowing that they weren’t forgotten on Father’s Day…even if they had to pay for the call!

Here at Pak Mail, we’ve noticed similar trends. Mother’s Day is always busier than Father’s Day at Pak Mail locations around the world. When it comes to packing and shipping gifts, are we sending more to Mom than Dad?

Disclaimer: We’re not discrediting any moms out there – but, we are celebrating all the things dads do, too.

So, here is Pak Mail’s list of reasons to celebrate dad as much as mom this Father’s Day:

  • Dad is laid-back. Eat your vegetables? Psssh…dad always looked the other way when you dropped your Brussels sprouts on the floor for the dog. (And you could have sworn he winked when you caught him doing the same with his.)
  • Dad is the protector. Pacifier fell on the floor? No biggie – he’ll sacrifice his own health, stick it in his mouth, and get it back to the baby before the first tear can fall.
  • The fix-it man. Whenever something doesn’t work quite right, everyone in the house calls on dad to make it better. Even if it took a few tries to get that leak to finally stop, or if dad was the reason your model car or porcelain tea set was in pieces, everything got fixed in the end.
  • Dad taught you valuable lessons. Whether it was how to change the tire, how to put a worm on a hook, or how not to throw like a girl, the knowledge you got from dad helped get you where you are.
  • No guilt from dad. Moms are experts at guilt trips, but even if you washed his favorite silk tie or used his driver to hit rocks, dad always came around in the end.
  • Dad, aka ‘Coach.’ Dad wasn’t always the first one to volunteer, but he showed up to every practice and game and did his best not to play favorites.

So, this year, get out there and show dad how much he means to you. Whether your dad lives a few miles away or a few hundred, it’s a great time to send a tie, golf shirt, or new hat his way. Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16th, so get to your local Pak Mail today to get dad’s gift on its way!
